He grew up on a family farm in rural southern Alabama. His family also owned and operated a “country store.” From this background he earned an engineering degree from Auburn University, became a Professional Engineer and Certified Management Consultant. He was a manufacturing executive with 3M for ten years and became the youngest manufacturing superintendent in the company, led the team that produced the first home video films in the U.S., and assisted with a plant start-up in Europe.
Davis formed a management consulting company, Management Methods, in 1984 and has served clients in 35 states and on 3 continents. Davis is a recognized expert in showing companies how to be the low cost, high quality, environmentally responsible leader in their industry. From Vermont to Malaysia Davis’ clients include BP, GM, Endure Medical, 3M, Tyco and many other large and small organizations.

He is also a peer reviewer for Energy, an international technical journal.
He has spoken for dozens of associations such as IWF, NRECA, NAPM, NPCA, AHMA, IBFI, PERA, WCMA, TECMA and NDMA. At IWF 1994 and 2010 he received outstanding speaker evaluations. Davis is a founding board member of the Georgia Automotive Mfg. Association (GAMA) and currently serves on the board and is chair of the continuing education committee. He also serves on the ethics committee of the Institute of Management Consultants. He is a member of AICHE and ASQ.
In 2015 Davis became an instructor for the Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering Continuing Education Department which offers professional development courses for engineering and other technical professionals including the Business Essentials for Engineering Professionals (BEEP) certificate program. He has a number of courses available online at AU Engineering, including a certificate series on Risk Management and another on Effective Problem Solving.
Davis has participated on the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO/TC 176 on Quality Management which is the ANSI accredited body that is to assist and develop the U.S. position on standards in the ISO 9000 family of Quality Management System Standards including ISO 9001:2015. This group helps develop the U.S. position on ISO quality concepts and terminology, quality systems and supporting technologies.
He has been a Certified Management Consultant since 1990, which is the highest earned accreditation in the profession and a designation held by fewer than 1% of consultants world-wide.
Davis has been married to Lynn since 1970 and they have two daughters, two sons-in-law, three grandchildren and one dog. He is actively involved with his family, in his community and in his church where he leads an adult Bible Study class each week.
